No, but it will give you options on who it could be. Remember that facial recognition works in terms of levels of confidence. Our Advanced Facial Recognition tool will give you up to 50 top results of people with Mr. or Ms. X’s likeness in seconds, each with a confidence rating (you'll get 10 results at a time). The higher that confidence score, the higher that person will be on your list. Your person's face, if he or she has a record, might not be the first match or the fifth, because computers see faces differently from humans, but will almost certainly be in the top 10-20 results if he or she is there, if not in the top three or five.
Do remember that your match is running against a law enforcement-sourced database of millions across multiple jurisdictions. Computers look at faces as points on a template, different from how humans look at them. Facial recognition works best as a combination of human and machine intelligence, so you’d then look at those options you’re offered and at the corresponding confidence ratings — you’d see a number next to each result offered to you and you’d also notice that the number reduces as you go down the list. If you have a name also though, that makes it easier to almost immediately see if there’s a match to your unsub or Unknown Subject.
Typically though, the higher the positive rating, the more likely there’s a very good match. Do remember that your subject might not be in the database at all, if he or she doesn’t have a record, or doesn’t have a record that is as yet in our system.
